1. How Much Does The District of Columbia Permit Test Cost?

The DC learner’s permit test costs $10 at the DC DMV. This fee comprises one to take the written knowledge test, a standard vision test, and all applicable paperwork for your driver’s permit. Each time you sit for the test, you must pay this fee. 

 

2. What Is The Age Requirement To Gain A District of Columbia Driver's License?

In the District of Columbia, a driver may be a minimum of 17 years old to qualify for getting their full Driver's License. A driver must be at least 16 years old to attain a Learner Permit and at least 16½ years old to get a Provisional License. 

 

3. How Many Questions Are On The District of Columbia Permit Test?

There are 25 questions on the DC permit test. All questions on the test are based on the 2022 DC driver’s license manual. To pass the exam, you are required to answer 20 questions correctly. This means that the passing condition is 80%. The test questions cover topics such as rules of the road, signage, and defensive driving practices. 

 

4. How Many Mistakes Are Allowed On The District of Columbia Permit Test?

You are allowed to answer 5 questions wrongly on your District of Columbia permit test. 

 

5. How Much Time Am I Allowed To Take My District of Columbia Permit Test at the DC DMV?

You will have one hour to complete all 25 questions on your DC written permit test. You are required to complete it before the DMV closes. You also must sit for the exam in person and under the supervision of the DC DMV staff. Generally, a test taker needs 15-45 minutes to complete all questions on the test. 

 

6. Can I Take The Permit Test Online In the District of Columbia?

7. What Happens If I Fail My District of Columbia Permit Test?

If you fail your DC permit test, you must wait three days before you can retake the test. You can retake the exam on the 4th day. Even though you can schedule your next test right away, you must wait 3 days before qualifying for taking the knowledge test again. In case you fail the knowledge test six times within a year, you won’t be permitted to sit for the 7th test until one year after the date when you failed the test. Each time you take the knowledge test, you must pay a fee of $10.
